Job Description:

Five Summers is seeking a highly qualified Computer Science teacher and tutor. 

Candidates should enjoy working with high school students, have a thorough knowledge background in computer science, excellent programming skills, and possess the ability to oversee and help students design and implement projects.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is required, Master’s or PhD degree preferred. Other Arts and Science degree specialties are acceptable if the candidate is able to demonstrate an extensive familiarity with Computer Science as well as the relevant skill set. Teaching experience commensurate with career status is also required. Experience teaching high school students would be an asset.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Teach an advanced computer science course to high school students in a small-group seminar format.

  • Teach 1-1 tutorials.

  • Help students acquire a comprehensive understanding of computer science and develop excellent practical programming skills.

  • Ensure that students enjoy classes.

  • Prepare reports on student progress and performance.       

 

Terms: Part-time; either on a fixed-term contract basis or as a regular staff teacher at Five Summers throughout the academic year. 

 

Salary: $35 – $60 an hour, depending on qualifications and experience, class size, and performance.

Start Date: 16 August 2021

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Workplace: In-person at our Kerrisdale and/or West Vancouver locations, or online and remote work via Zoom and Skype.
